![]() RF signals can also be generated through the engine electronics. While you are at it you should install a line filter on your radio power wire. You can buy these on Amazon, they are cheap. However you can install them on your power wire (as close as possible) to your LED light. If your LEDs are Amazon imported lights then they do not have built in Ferrite Coils. If your power wires are close to or are connected to your radio, then the LED RF is drowning out your radio. The radio frequency being transmitting through the power wire is close to the radio frequencies in your audio radio station you are trying to receive. This circuit it using the power wire as an RF radio antenna. The LEDs are diodes which require an electronic circuit to light. But then again, if all you do is putt around slowly on nice smooth trails, it might be just fine.Your LED lights are emitting RF radio frequencies. You can try the Cheap Chinese stuff, but the money you'll save at the start will quickly get lost when you need to keep replacing antennas. I've had the whip bent over a full 90º right at the spring with no issues. ![]() One of the areas we ride has some low underpasses under railroad tracks/highways where the UTV barely clears the overhead. The coil/mount/spring is still in good shape. I've hit tree branches at 40mph and even have a permanent kink at the end of the whip. I've had it on my UTV for about 3,000 miles and it has been through some pretty rough stuff. I'm running a 1/2 wave VHF antenna with a spring base. I'd recommend going with a 1/2 wave style antenna, they'll tune up without a ground plane. The roll bar mounts often won't make a good ground connection, and the offset nature of the mount results in a poor ground plane (if it even has one…). They are thin metal and won't stand up to the beating.Īnd as said above, you need to have the right antenna. Tram, Browning, and any name you cannot pronounce are usually poor quality and have poorly installed connectors.Īvoid the temptation to use the NMO fender mounts. Get a -QUALITY- NMO mount, not the Chinese crap. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola). The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. ![]() Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate just purchase it.įor M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
